Annual Meeting of the Council
ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING
It was all change for the Executive of the Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs at the recent Annual General Meeting of the Council held at Penrith Golf Club.
Most notably came the retirement of Tom Stout as Secretary of CUGC. Tom had originally taken on the role temporarily, but the temporary stint ended up lasting 19 years!
Gary Watson was elected as Secretary and will take over from Tom.
In his closing address to the meeting, Tom thanked everyone for their support over the near 20 years he had held office. He was presented with some gifts from the Executive and from the Men’s Captain on behalf of the players. Along with the gifts was a bouquet of flowers for Tom’s wife Kate, whom Tom acknowledged as being a key member of his 'office staff.’ Finally, he wished his successor Gary, every success in taking on the mantle of County Secretary.
Tom Stout – Retiring Secretary Alan McLean – President 2025-26
Alan McLean was elected as President for 2025-26 taking over the role from Malcolm Wheadon.
In his opening remarks to the meeting President McLean thanked the County Members for entrusting him with the position of President and he promised to perform to the best of his ability. He would focus a lot of his energy on improving our position with the recruitment of junior golfers in the County and the better use of communications, both within the Union and with the players and clubs.
He thanked Past President Malcolm for his hard work and diligence over the past two years and then announced that Andrew Kendall was elected as President Elect for 2025-26.
President Alan thanked all present for attending the meeting and wished everybody a successful 2025 season. He also thanked the Captain & Committee of Penrith Golf Club for the use of the facilities for the meeting.
